Attendance
Absences Add Up! #schooleveryday
The Sweetwater Union High School District recognizes regular school attendance plays a key role in student achievement. California Education Code 48200 calls for each child between the ages of 6 and 18 to be subject to compulsory full-time education.
Showing up for school has a huge impact on a student’s academic success. Even as children grow older and more independent, families play a key role in making sure students get to school every day and understand why attendance is so important for success in school and on the job.
We are focused on creating a safe learning environment while working to re-establish positive attendance habits and strengthen student and school connections.
“Showing up” is more than just being present; it reflects an attitude of engagement and participation. It’s a wonderful way to kick off the new school year!
Research shows that attending school every day can:
- Help students regain lost momentum and get back on track
- Enhance learning and increase graduation rates
- Boost students’ self-esteem and overall feelings about school
- Improve mental health through social interaction, friendship development, empathy, and lasting peer relationships
- Provide personalized learning experiences that help prevent students from falling behind
When families and schools cultivate strong relationships, children are more likely to remain in school, graduate, and excel both academically and socially.
Sweetwater, we thank you for your commitment to showing up all year long! Your dedication plays a vital role in our students’ success and well-being. Together, we can create a supportive and engaging environment that fosters learning and growth for every child. Your involvement makes a significant difference, and we appreciate your partnership in this important effort!
